Section 2. What To Do When You Are Injured The first thing to do when you suffer a personal injury is to seek medical treatment. If you are in a car accident, call the police. Tell them that there was a car accident and that you and others are injured. If you are injured in a slip and fall, tell the people who run the business where you were hurt and either call an ambulance or go to a hospital or doctor. Next, depending on the situation, gather as much information as possible. Clearly you want the name, address, and phone number of anyone who was involved in your personal injury situation (such as the other driver and passengers when you are hurt in a car accident). In case of slip and fall, get the name, address, and phone number of the workers at the business where you were hurt. In all cases, you also need to get the name of any insurance company, insurance agent, and policy number. Additionally, you need to get the name, address, and phone number of any witnesses. You must tell the police or the workers where you were hurt what happened, but DO NOT SAY THAT IT WAS YOUR FAULT OR THAT YOU WERE NOT INJURED. This is not to say that you should lie because you should not lie. This is simply to say that you should not jump to conclusions. It is not unusual in car accidents for the investigation to reveal that the other driver did something to cause the accident. In slip and fall cases, it is not unusual to find out that the surface had not been maintained and something caused you to fall. Also, it is not unusual for people to suffer soft tissue injury which makes them very sore the day after the accident or fall. So, do not jump to conclusions and say something that may later turn out to be wrong. After you have received medical treatment and have an understanding of what happened, then you can pursue your personal injury claim by contacting the other person's or business' insurance company. You may also want to contact a personal injury lawyer. The above is general information only and may or may not be applicable to your situation. If you have any questions whatsoever, talk with a lawyer licensed in your state. FREE Personal Injury eBook and more personal injury information.
